New Skills and Feats

New skills and feats are available in the Birthright setting.

Rules Change: You gain either the Implement Expertise or Weapon Expertise Feat for free with your main weapon. If you have already chosen this feat, then you may choose another in its place. This feat was introduced by WotC to fix a flaw in the way to-hit values scale with defense values as you go up in level. As such, you will not be penalized with a “Feat Tax” to fix the system.

Skills

Warcraft
The warcraft skill allows its user to understand the flow of tactical battle in large-scale combat. This check can be used as a basic military knowledge skill, as well as grating bonuses in tactical combat with the war cards. This skill is a prerequisite for the Battle Caster feat.

Feats

Arcane Sanctum
Your magical power is enhanced at a specific location.
Prerequisites: Scion, Wizard
Benefits: Choose one distinct geographic location in a province in which you hold a source holding. This sanctum can be an estate, an area of a forest, a cave-system, or any other clearly defined area near a source of your local arcane power. This area cannot exceed a radius of (1 mile * source holding level). The spells you cast in this area place their targets at a -1 penalty to save. Furthermore, if you are in the immediate presence (close range) of the manifestation of the source of your local arcane power during the casting, you may additionally add your source holding rating in the province as a penalty to save.

Arcane Studies
Your studies pay off, and the secrets of the wizards are yours.
Prerequisites: Cleric
Benefits: You may learn and cast rituals which use the Arcana skill, but you are limited to such rituals as allowed to magicians. These rituals may not be memorized for quick-casting like your standard rituals may be.

Battle Caster
You are capable of casting battle spells in tactical combat.
Prerequisites: Capable of casting 5th level spells, Warcraft skill
Benefits: See Armies and Warfare for details on the use of battle magic.

Blood Focus
Your blood abilities are hard to resist.
Prerequisite: Scion level 1
Benefits: Saving throws against your blood abilities suffer a -2 penalty.

Bloodline Prodigy
Choose one of your blood abilities. You are able to use it more often and to greater effect than your peers.
Prerequisite: Scion
Benefits: All variable, numeric effects of the blood ability are increased by one-half. Additionally, if the ability has a limited number of uses over a given time period, the ability can be used twice as often.

Conqueror
Conquest is in your blood.
Regions: Anuire, Vos
Benefits: You gain a +1 bonus on all Warcraft skill checks and a +1 bonus on will defense.

Discipline
Your culture values discipline, endurance, and the fulfillment of duty, and these goals are deeply instilled in you.
Regions: Anuire, Dwarf
Benefits: You gain a +1 bonus to your Fortitude and Will defense.

Divine Sanctum
Your magical power is enhanced at a specific location.
Prerequisites: Scion, Cleric
Benefits: Choose one distinct geographic location in a province in which you hold a temple holding. This sanctum can be an estate, an area of a forest, a village, or any other clearly defined area near a source of your local divine power. This area cannot exceed a radius of (1 mile * temple holding level). The spells you cast in this area place their targets at a -1 penalty to save. Furthermore, if you are in the immediate presence (close range) of the center of your local religious power (generally an altar, shrine, or statue) during the casting, you may additionally add your temple holding rating in the province as a penalty to save.

Elven Voice
You have trained your naturally melodious voice to perfection and can hold members of other races spellbound.
Prerequisite: Elf, Cha 13+
Benefits: You receive a +2 to all Diplomacy checks. All spells you cast with the charm keyword give a -2 penalty to save.

Forestdweller
You are at home in the great forests of Cerilia.
Regions: Elf, Rjurik
Benefits: You receive a +2 bonus on nature skill checks in forest terrain. Further, you receive a +2 bonus on perception skill checks in forest terrain.

Highlander
You come from the highlands of Rjurik.
Prerequisite: Rjurik
Benefits: You gain a +2 bonus on nature checks in forest, highland and hills. You gain a +1 bonus to fortitude defense.

Military Genius
You are renowned for your innovative army management.
Prerequisite: Int 13+
Benefits: You receive a +2 bonus on all Warcraft checks and domain-level actions that receive a potential bonus from Warcraft. You receive an additional +2 bonus on checks involving tactical movement.

Religious Studies
Your devotion has been rewarded, and the gods will help you in your quest.
Prerequisites: Magician, Wizard, not elven
Benefits: You may learn and cast rituals which use the Religion skill. These rituals may not be memorized for quick-casting like your standard rituals may be. This feat does not give you access to rituals which require the Heal skill.

Seafarer
You are a seasoned sailor.
Prerequisite: Brecht, Khinasi
Benefits: You gain a +2 bonus on Acrobatics, Athletics, and Endurance checks while aboard a ship.

Shadow Guide
You can lead others into the shadow world.
Prerequisite: Halfling
Benefits: You may bring other creatures with you when Shadow Walking. You may bring additional travelers equal to your character level plus your wisdom modifier.

Improved Shadow Guide
You can lead others into the shadow world.
Prerequisite: Shadow Guide
Benefits: You may bring other creatures with you when Shadow Walking. You may lead a number of army units (Armies and Warfare) equal to your wisdom modifier into the shadow world. This feat is a supernatural ability.
